Originally called Villa Franca del Castellaro, it also housed a lovely chapel, which still stands today, built to suit the needs of the priests and cardinals who were frequent guests at the Villa. Over the years, the villa was passed down through generations of heirs until it was finally purchased by the noble family of engineer Emilio De Ferrari and his wife Adelia. After transforming the property into a park, in 1956 the villa was converted into an exclusive hotel, the Cenobio dei Dogi. | |

Die Geschichte reicht bis ins Jahr 1565 zurück, als die aristokratische Familie Doges, die bestimmte Gebiete in Italien regierte, entschied, eine Villa an den felsigen Ufern am Fusse des Portofino-Berges zu bauen, die nun heute ein Naturpark geworden sind. Ursprünglich hiess es Villa Franca del Castellaro, mit einer reizenden Kapelle, die heute noch dort steht. Die Villa wurde gebaut, um den Bedürfnissen der Priester und Kardinälen gerecht zu werden, die häufig Gäste der Villa waren. Über die Generationen wurde die Villa weitervererbt, bis endlich der noble Ingenieur Emilio De Ferrari und seine Ehefrau Adelia die Villa erwarben. Nach der Umgestaltung des Eigentums in einen Park, wurde die Villa 1956 in ein exklusives Hotel umgebaut, das Cenobio dei Dogi. | ||

Una famiglia aristocratica, alla quale appartenevano alcuni Dogi che governavano in Italia, decise di costruire una villa sulla roccia ai piedi del monte di Portofino, oggi parco naturale, che fu chiamata Villa Franca del Castellaro. Nella villa fecero costruire anche una graziosa cappella, ancora oggi esistente, poiché i visitatori più assidui erano preti e cardinali. Con il passare degli anni la villa, che nel frattempo passò di erede in erede, fu acquistata da una famiglia nobile.
