I suoi colloqui con il duca, la sua appassionata convinzione del ritorno all'antico, propugnato dal genio dell'umanesimo, il grande architetto e scrittore Leon Battista Alberti, la sua congenialità con il pensiero di Biagio Rossetti, il realizzatore della Addizione, ne fanno uno dei primi e più importanti pensatori umanisti che nell'antichità ricercano il modello supremo della città come espressione di un pensiero divino e nell'architettura la realizzazione della volontà del principe come ordinatore del mondo e saggio e illuminato reggitore della città-stato. Un libretto, scritto dal Prisciani e intitolato Spectacula riassume le sue idee non solo sulla rinascita del teatro e sugli spettacoli che a corte riportavano il gusto del teatro classico, Plauto e Terenzio e le traduzioni che di questi testi fecero gli umanisti, primo fra tutti Boiardo, ma anche degli edifici pubblici che dovevano abbellire la città sulle orme dei libri di architettura di Leon Battista Alberti e di Vitruvio. La fama odierna di Prisciani è però affidata al suo intervento nel salone dei Mesi di Schifanoia dove si sviluppa il grande calendario astrologico voluto da Ercole per glorificare il fratello Borso. Sulla scorta del grandissimo Aby Warburg iniziatore della scienza iconologica (che proprio qui a Schifanoia scoprì il significato della cultura astrologica nelle meravigliose immagini del salone e che per primo pensò a Prisciani come all'ideatore del ciclo), le più recenti indagini sulle pitture di Schifanoia non possono prescindere sul ruolo dell'umanista nell'elaborazione del pensiero che sostiene la gran macchina ideologica di Schifanoia, se non proprio di essere stato l'ispiratore diretto delle immagini così come esse vennero realizzate: un ruolo che non può essere conteso al grandissimo Cosmè Tura. Quella scienza astrologica che attraverso gli studi di astronomia il Prisciani perseguì per tutta la vita si riflette nei lacerti di dipinti che ornano la sua casa ferrarese e il riflesso di quella cultura e di quel tempo glorioso nel magistrale restauro di quel luogo destinato a divenire raffinato alloggio per chi non dimentica o vuol conoscere la grandezza della cultura rinascimentale di Ferrara. | ||
